Andrew Nixon, Bristol Central TC Win Tennis For All Award!

Andrew Nixon from Bristol Central TC, has been exceptional in his desire and passion to get more people playing tennis more often. Fully understanding what 'Tennis Opened Up' means, Andrew ensures that the programme reflects what the local community require.

One nominee explains "He has been a member of Bristol Central TC since 2019, having come through the Adult Improver Course, and is a very willing volunteer with a real 'can do' attitude. A complete asset to the club."

"What a great example of what a volunteer, with relevant skills and a 'can do' attitude, can achieve when given support."

His achievements so far:

  • The Adult Improvers Liaison Coordinator where he has helped to set up systems to manage the 10 week programme twice a year
  • Secretary of the club and is to become Chair of the club at the next AGM

  • Created the Happy Lane Fund
  • Keen supporter of Avon Tennis and attends regular volunteer meetings

Andrew had the vision and tenacity to create a volunteer culture to help with setting up a regular weekly walking tennis session and also to create the incredible 'Happy Lane Fund'.

He's kept a keen interest in the' Happy Lane Fund' following the sessions of successful applicants, including:

People from Culturally Diverse Communities, Disabled People, People with Long Term Health Conditions, People on Low incomes and Refugees. People and organisations can apply from anywhere in the county. It is an amazing legacy.
