What a great time was had last Saturday by the juniors that attended the inaugural Junior Awards Evening, hosted by the Avon Tennis volunteers, at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex, University of Bristol.
Planned by Carol Weeks, the team of volunteers behind the scenes were Claire Nutt, Claire Callaghan and office administrator Debbie Curtis. Of course, it was the Bendall Family show with Ollie Bendall (Avon's Junior County Performance Coach) leading the fun games with his coaching team and his dad Pete handing out the numerous certificates, county colours and medals to the 100+ juniors that attended.
Said Ian Alexander, LTA Avon Councillor ‘what a wonderful celebratory evening, it was fantastic that so many of our juniors attended, so that we could all celebrate and recognise their hard work, resilience and commitment. Of course, we mustn't forget their parents either, who spend many hours supporting their children throughout the year... thank you’.
One of the juniors, Tommy, excitedly commented ‘Wow!! That was the best tug of war I have ever done, and we won, the burgers were great and I got a medal as well. I will keep trying my best at tennis so I can come back next year for another fun evening, thank you’.
