Applying for a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service)

The LTA is committed to ensuring that all children and adults at risk enjoy tennis in a safe and enjoyable environment. People seeking to work with children or adults at risk within tennis are therefore required to obtain a satisfactory criminal record check. In England and Wales, individuals must obtain a DBS check.

Those wanting to apply for a DBS should follow the information provided on the LTA website: DBS Overview | LTA DBS Checks & Applications

Avon Tennis is able to verify key documents that are required and specified in your application, BUT we do not have access to the online system to be able to change any aspect of your application. Therefore, it is important that when you complete your application you:

  • Find a quiet space
  • Have allowed sufficient time - please don't rush
  • Carefully read the instructions - there are many nuances that unfortunately get missed on regular occasions
  • You will need your LTA number
  • Check your documents carefully, for example:
    • whether the Birth Certificate you have is the original or a copy
    • if your utility bill has your current residential address and is dated within the past 3 months.

The DBS application system is managed by "First Advantage" (previously GB Group), not Avon Tennis nor the LTA, and they manage the whole process. If you have any challenges with completing your application, then please call them on: 0845-251-5000.

You can always choose the Post Office for verification too. This is at stage 3 of 5 in Verification of Documents, drop down choice.

You can make your application here: Apply for a DBS | LTA

By following the guidelines and advice we hope that this will help you and save you any unnecessary journeys.
