News from Avon Tennis
The summer wrapped up with a fabulous Avon County Championships. What a pleasure to see players from across Avon entering in to the spirit of competing. More information can be found here: /county-closed-championships/
Helen Abbott ran a 'Let's Smash It' mental health session in August in collaboration with Bright Ideas, Open Court Disability Tennis, and Off The Record. It was a sunny day and 24 people, of varying tennis abilities turned up and enjoyed the session and feel encouraged to play tennis.
Coaching Bursaries have been given to people across Avon helping them on their coaching journeys. We look forward to seeing them develop.
Hundreds of used competition tennis balls have been donated to schools and causes that need extra help to encourage more people to pay tennis.
Elly Shearman, Head Coach of Kings LTC has been selected to play tennis in Miami this October. Elly recently won the 35+ British Seniors Grass Court Closed championship at Wimbledon. She's on fire! Lucky Avon.
Avon Ladies won their group in the Summer County Cup (Havant) and it’s the second year they’ve been promoted - now up to Division 3. It was very hot weather but they all worked together. Congratulations
Many Avon clubs have been busy running summer camps getting more young players involved in tennis. It would be great to see more junior players of different abilities starting a life long love for the game.
Going forward we have 9U County Invitational Fun Day on 6th October, Club Forum on 16th October, fabulous LTA Tennis Awards launching and Club Registrations opening. Plus of course the Development and Performance Squads are back in action. Phew! Busy times Avon.
